The happiest dogs & Mojo training

Toller and Mojo had their first walk together today, they LOVED it!

Toller’s fitness is doing well, although she still gets tired pretty quickly, she’s always running at FULL SPEED! So I’m not sure if her stamina’s still less or if it’s just because she’s so desperate to make up for lost time XD

Now that Mojo is bigger and can hold his own against full-throttle Tolly, they could enjoy some off lead time together. Here it is, in video and pics!

He’s catching her in size!

They got tired quick XD

Purdy ginger flecks

And Mojo has been doing some wonderful training, that little dog makes my heart sing πŸ™‚

Yesterday we went into town, and even though we didn’t do much there were so many positives! We bumped into the same child’s toy that Sasha saw a few days ago, and hugely freaked out over. It was good to get Mojo training around it, and obviously he didn’t care.

Then I took him to the metal panel that Sasha was terrified of between 3-6 months old, and Mojo walked onto it like a champ, zero fear πŸ™‚

Also, that’s the town centre behind us – he is still doing wonderful focus around distractions!

Walking under scaffolding πŸ™‚

And finally,Β YESTERDAY I started teaching Mojo ‘scratch’, so that I could transfer it to the scratch board and he could file his own front nails…ONE DAY later, and look!!

This dude’s such a champ ❀

2.5 weeks after surgery

Tolly now has a bare nub πŸ˜€

She’s even growing adorable ginger peach fuzz over her stump already hahaha!

Please ignore those sad puppy dog eyes. She *really* wanted to go play with her big sister and I was making her pose for nub photos XD ❀

Wrestling with Mojo this morning

Look at that little nub go!!! XD

I was kinda worried how I would feel, seeing it bare 24/7. I thought I’d be grossed out, or sad every time I saw it…I actually find that little stump adorable, because it’s a part of Tolly! And seeing it wobble about is so cute!! ❀

You honestly wouldn’t believe how smoothe her recovery has been. She is incredibly agile already, and we can see her stamina improving.

She didn’t actually need me to hold the buffalo horn here, I was just doing it so that we had a better shot of her nub!

Summer fun & happy pups!

Recently we bought a 6ft pool with some of my partner’s birthday money.

It arrived a few days ago, but the weather’s been kind of meh until today. At the first hint of sunlight we broke the pool out and started filling it with water πŸ™‚

Of course we started it in the wrong place, which threw the whole thing off and meant we couldn’t fill it properly, but it was good enough for us!

Boo was our only water dog, our only pup to venture into the pool and have fun splashing about πŸ™‚

Sasha spent most her time sulking inside (she was not a fan of the paddling pool), but occasionally I managed to get her out and snap some photos with the others!

The boys ❀

Kasper went into his crate then as we were getting Tolly out, and Kasper’s too much of a whirlwind to manage around TWO teeny dogs! Sasha kept him company lounging on the armchair, sulking XD

Toller wants to play with her big sister so much, she will jump up against Sasha, so far Sasha has shown restraint and knows she needs to be gentle πŸ™‚

Little uns in the pool!

Wrasslin’ XD

Following big-but-soon-to-be-little sister πŸ˜›

Mojo stood against the side of the pool, it caved in and a deluge of water cascaded all over him…it was so funny, and his bewildered face was even more bewildered than usual!!

He went toddling off all dripping wet and surprised, I was howling with laughter!

I did chase after him, scoop him up, and we had kisses so he felt better πŸ˜‰

It was a fun day. If it’s warm tomorrow, we’ll be filling that pool up again!

2 days after amputation

Toller is still doing great πŸ™‚

Her pain meds make her very sleepy, so we have to adjust how long she is out her crate. Usually it’s 20-40 minutes. Our vets seem to be really strict about crate rest after amputation (some places are much more lenient) so for now at least we’re following their advice.

This means Tolly’s still on crate rest at least until her check up on Monday. Eventually she’ll be spending time in the 42 inch crate we’ve set up as her play pen, and the next step is spending more time free in the house. At some point we’ll begin special exercises to strengthen her core muscles, and building her up to walks πŸ™‚

Spud’s gonna be meeting my parents tomorrow. That will be nice for her πŸ™‚

It’s Boo’s birthday in a few days, he’s going to be seven! Unfortunately his main birthday gift won’t arrive until a few days after (we forgot to order it with all the Tolly stuff, ooops!). He’s getting a food dehydrator so we can make all sorts of treats and chews for him, he’ll LOVE that!

We did order some new puzzle feeders which will arrive on his birthday though, so at least he has something.

Kasper’s had less walk as we prepped for Toller’s surgery. Once her amputation was done we got back into the swing of it, and he was SO HAPPY to have his walks!!

He might be seven, but he can still go as far as Sasha, and he SPRINTS everywhere vs her leisurely pace. He has crazy stamina and walking him is always such a joy.

Smiles all round πŸ™‚

And I’m going to do a training post/update for Sasha at some point. For now here are some photos from a very wet walk today!

And whilst we’re talking about wet dogs…check out Miss Sashie splashing through the sea on a hike the other day!!

All the dog walks!

Took Sasha on a HUGE hike yesterday, to a route she’d never been to before.

Then we took Kasper for a walk up through town, and today the girls had aΒ massive hike in all sorts of places.

Toller is a completely changed dog to the one before crate rest, and it’s soul destroying…it honestly breaks my heart. I know she will cheer up a lot once crate rest is over, but she’ll never be the dog she once was / could have been…we missed too much when she was so young, and it’s nobody’s fault, it’s just really sad 😦

I’m trying so hard to do things that interest her or make her happy, and I’m just getting more and more depressed at seeing what a broken little dog she is *sigh*

Anyway.

Sasha’s huge hike yesterday.

A pheasant flew squawking across this field, so Sasha took off after it, incredulous. Here you can see her checking in and leaving when asked.

My partner went into a shop so me and Kasper went and sat in the town square. I can’t go into any shops as the lights trigger seizures within minutes. That basically means wherever we go we might as well take one of our dogs, as then I have company waiting outside!!

With no prompting at all, and with zero excitement, Kasper settled between my feet as we waited at the square, and just watched the world go by. I was so proud πŸ˜€

I wish I could be so happy out in the world!

And with the girls today we walked through town, along the canal, through the farm fields, and back down through town. It was a huge walk, we were out almost two hours, and the girls got to observe lots of people, dogs, kids etc.

Sasha got to say hi to a dog, and Spudder got to say hi to a person. Toller was at least engaged and interested in what was going on around her, if not happy.

That coat was Pixie’s and is huge on Tolly haha! I’m missing Pixie an incredible amount at the moment, it’s like a gaping hole inside me. I think it’s come on so strong because I’m missing Tolly so much too *sigh*

allthewalks7

We also put Toller down on some grass for about 10 seconds!

Seeing as the vet has said we can start putting her down for small bursts of time in the house, we figured on a walk made sense as a toilet break and would be more interesting. My heart broke for her!

Also, this face ❀

I’ve had a bad few days for seizures. Last night we had a friend round to watch a live event on TV, and had been looking forward to it for weeks…within half an hour I started having seizures and feeling awful, and had to just go hide in a dark room with Kasper for several hours *sigh*

Then today, we have new next door neighbours, and I was having a seizure right outside the front of our house, with Sasha’s lead in my hands. My partner had Tolly, so he came and got Sasha and took them both inside and behind a barrier, but couldn’t do much to help me so I was just sat blanked out on the wall whilst our neighbours walked within two feet of me and probably thought I was such a rude knob 😦

Good training, good news!

Good news first!

Toller had a vet appt today with the good vet, just to check how her foot is recovering. The vet was thrilled with her progress and said Tolly is recovering faster than any of the vet staff anticipated πŸ˜€

Toller was walking around the exam room for about a minute so the vet could observe her limp (or lack of one!) and the vet was really impressed. She even said that within the next week we can start letting Toller walk a little in the house ^__^

We also got to ask about Toller’s wonky foot, which the vet said is not a concern. She said at worst it’s a little bit of ligament damage, which will just mean her foot is a little squiffy and the nails on that paw may need more care.

So yes, AWESOME NEWS!!

My little champ ❀

And some boy training videos, mostly Kasper.

Here’s Charley’s. I started teaching him to tidy away his toys haha πŸ™‚

Kasper rocking leave it

Kasper playing dead XD

Kasper doing the initial part of the trick “say your prayers” (second part would be lowering his head)

Leg weaves (which he LOVES!!)

And a final leave it

I had more to say, but my head is a ball of seizurey cotton wool and I won’t make sense. So I’ll leave it here πŸ™‚

Dogs

I have tried SO MUCH to keep Tolly busy…I am failing XD

We have tried walks being carried. I’ll pick up sticks, leaves and litter, for her to sniff, chew or play tug with. I dance under bridges and sing so my voice echoes. None of that is at all interesting anymore.

In the house we have puzzle feeders. If we fill them with wet food, she is vaguely interested.

We do stationary training, but can only do a few reps before she’s bored now.

She has chews, pig trotters and knuckle bones, but at this point they are worse than useless. She has zero interest in the trotter and will chew the bone for a few minutes.

Spud is DONE!!

God. bless. this. dog!

The most boring bone in the world XD

Tolly finally has a vet appt this afternoon!

Originally it was last Saturday, but we cancelled it until Monday as my seizures were off the charts. On Monday, we got a phone call saying no vets were in at the surgery and the appt was moved to Wednesday.

On Wednesday, two hours before the appt, we had a phone call from the vet. My bf answered but nobody spoke. He hung up the phone and tried several times to call them over the next few hours, but the phones were down.

He assumed the system was down, and that somebody had been calling to cancel our appt again, and as I was out of it with seizures he stayed home and decided he’d call them the next day.

A vet called us around 6pm, asking why we’d missed the appt and not acknowledging Β that they called us or the phones weren’t working at all. This vet was also unaware that we’d seen a different vet less than a week ago, and was under the impression Toller hadn’t been seen since the day of the x-ray.

So we have an appt this afternoon.

Yesterday was a terrible day for seizures and bipolar mood. Depression has suffocated me this week, and yesterday I got a huge dollop of seizure rage too. I was screaming and yelling at my bf, then bubbling with self-hatred for the things I was saying. Seizure rage feeds so easily into depression.

Sasha was incredible during the episode. She sat or stood at my side, nose nudged alerts (IDK what for, stim alerts maybe?) and did a front block several times too. All with no instruction, she just rocked it and was totally calm and in ‘work mode’!

boredspud11

Once the rage and seizures had passed I was back to my usual very depressed self, so Sasha got on with some DPT.

Charley is doing great with no walks, he’s much happier πŸ™‚
