So Nyx has been here for just over a week now, and what a week it has been.
We were completely unprepared for a puppy. We had not planned for one, we did not particularly want one, we didn’t have a crate or puppy food or anything.
And then Kasper found Nyx, and here she was.
We stole a crate off one of our other pets and bought a new one in, we bought puppy food, we paid for vet visits and vaccinations and wormers and all sorts of things.
We began doing all sorts of training and introductions and confidence building…and now a week has passed, and here she is.
The difference in this dog is amazing.
When we found her, we couldn’t describe her, her personality or behaviours…she didn’t understand human interaction, being given treats, being touched.
She was scared of us, for days she was scared of us, and for the first few days we couldn’t feed her out of certain puzzle feeders as she would panic when she struggled to get to the food.
Today we have had more successful introductions with Kasper (I do try and film some, but it’s really REALLY hard as I need to be on the ball!).
Today she slept in her crate for almost TWO HOURS and whined for just 5 minutes initially before settling.
She responds to her name every time, and now when she runs to us it is with happiness and joy rather than fear.
She knows sit, and she is learning down and touch. She is beginning to understand and enjoy tug of war. She plays now (by herself and with us) and has zoomies, something she didn’t understand or do at all initially.
She has zero issues putting her harness on, walking on lead (in the house & garden) and trades items when offered treats.
Today we carried her into town and I sat out the way on a bench whilst my partner ran into the shop to buy a few bits. We were there 10-15 minutes, and Nyxie was an absolute doll. We played with a strip of cardboard somebody had left on the bench, she sat and chilled, we did training…it was wonderful!
In just one week, we have become parents to a wonderful, spectacular furkid 🙂
I will stop posting about her so much soon. I’m just proud, of us all, and I do love documenting these puppy moments 🙂
