Time for another DIY pet toy installment, and this is one of my favourites!
Cardboard tube balls
I’ve been wanting to try this for a long time. Now all our elderly gerbils have passed away especially, we always seem to have a lot of cardboard toilet roll tubes going spare. Here’s a great way to use them if you have small pets 😉
This is *such* an easy toy to make, and is suitable for almost any small rodenty pet; rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, degus, rats, hamsters, gerbils and mice – I even know some cats that would love these!
All you need to make these toys are some cardboard tubes (I used toilet roll tubes) and a pair of scissors.
Cut the tube into strips around 2cm wide. I used three strips per ball. The first two strips want to be held like this:
And then the third one slots over them and holds everything in place
Now not only do these make great chew toys on their own, but you can of course put treats in them and turn them into puzzle feeders too!
They’re a great size for holding pelleted food, hay and small pieces of vegetables or herbs 🙂
Our smaller rodents and Aubree the bunny all got to try these, and they were a huge hit with everyone!
This toy is an easy 10/10 – see our deaf & blind rabbit playing with them below 🙂
