Sleeping bunnies are the cutest

Hoo boy is this gonna be pic heavy πŸ˜‰

So the past few days Aubree’s cage has been open pretty much all the time we are home, and her log tunnel has been turned into a ramp to let her come out into her pen if she wants – she hasn’t yet, but she has climbed her front paws about halfway down.

Me and Aubree are getting on like a house on fire!

I have started ‘clicker’ training her, that is blowing on her face and then giving her a treat (the blow will be the clicker / marker, I am just teaching her it means treats at the moment!), which will hopefully come in handy…I’ll post videos once we make any progress πŸ™‚

Along with that she will climb her front paws right up my shoulder & put her paws on my leg if I am sat by the cage, she will take food and treats from my hand, and sniff me all over. She is extremely confident so long as I am not touching her (touching her is scary because she has no clue it’s coming – fair enough!) – the ‘clicker’ training should help with touches and strokes.

Anyway, today for the most part I had a lazy day too (I’m wondering if my manic episode is finally tailing off – hopefully no more of these crappy symptoms!!) where I just sat by Aubree’s open cage and coloured, read, spent time on the internet, and sporadically fed her treats.

It was SO MUCH FUN πŸ™‚

I love this bun with all my heart; she is fun to watch, fun to interact with, and obviously adorable! My dad ‘met’ her today and surprisingly he is smitten with her – he usually calls rabbits “crap pets”, but he loved Aubree and said how well she was doing and that he was surprised by how happy she seemed as he watched her!

Aubree spent a lot of her day playing, exploring and…sleeeeeping!

Cue the cute video and photos πŸ˜‰

And yeah, she sleeps with her eyes open almost all the time haha πŸ™‚

A few photos of her up and about:

Ball of bunny haha! And this is her pen area, as you can see there are no corners at all:

**edit** – forgot the video!

Finally,Β a certain someone was jealous that Aubree had my attention, and wanted cuddles πŸ˜‰

  1. How do you keep your dogs away from the bunny? My fiancΓ© and I have a rescue dog that can’t be around other animals, but I’d love to have a bunny or some kind of little critter! Just wouldn’t want anything to happen to it

    • We have a lot of animals, so thankfully our dogs are somewhat used to them – even so we *always* keep our dogs and pets separate. If we’re handling a pet the dogs are in a different room or in their crates.

We use a dog / rabbit pen (this one specifically, but it comes in different heights:

We have one panel around the front of our chinchilla cage, as it’s at ground level and Rey would get excited, and we have it all the way around the rabbit cage too.

As well as that for the rabbit (because Kasper used to be super obsessed with wild & pet rabbits even just a few years back) we have used barricades to completely block Aubree’s pen from view, this includes a large wooden tabletop and a 4ftx2ft wooden shelf. That way I can sit with her without Kasper getting too jealous, and although Kasper can tell there’s a rabbit behind there by smell, he isn’t wound up at all because he can’t see her / watch her hop πŸ™‚

We have had no problem at all. Kasper used to be quite obsessive about our pets when we adopted him at 9 months, but with a little training and age he calmed right down and barely bats an eyelid now. Raiden has always been calm and we socialised him pretty well. Zoey was a handful but we just used to keep smaller pets on tables, on top of crates, behind barriers etc and it was never an issue πŸ™‚
