Yes, three years ago today Kasper was brought around to our house and we officially adopted him…it seems so long ago, but at the same time I can’t believe we have had him three whole years! 🙂
We’ve tried to make his day more special by giving him extra treats (he really will be a fattie haha!), giving him all his antlers (which we then had to remove; they seem faulty as he was just snapping huge chunks off them which has never happened before 😦 ), playing with just Kasper and not Zoey (she spent the entire time screaming her head off from her crate!) and we’re planning on taking Kasper for an extra walk, if it ever stops raining!!
Both pups enjoyed posing for the camera today…in the next pic Zoey looks huge, the camera lies, she’s a tiny little thing! XD
Amazingly a pic where both dogs are behaving!!
And some of the handsome lad himself on his special day;
Isn’t he beautiful? 🙂
I love how solemn he is here XD
And playing with his little sister 🙂
It’s kinda crazy to think back to the first time we saw Kasper, a few days before we adopted him. We were SO excited at the prospect of meeting our first dog! We mistook a lot of his fearful behaviour for polite behaviour (doh! We really were dog newbies!) and didn’t have a clue what we were letting ourselves in for, but we knew he just had to be ours! 🙂
Waiting for his old owners to drive around to our flat and drop Kasper off was so exciting…we were so nervous!! We bought him a bed (which he later destroyed!), a pink Kong and some toys. He raced around the place as soon as he arrived, and stood whining at the door once his old owners left.
It took him a few weeks to settle, and for those first few weeks he behaved perfectly…then the real Kasper emerged hahaha!!!
He was destructive, fearful of hands moving towards him, fearful of raised voices, fearful of strangers (men in particular); he bounced on top of other dogs to try get them to play, he was destructive in the house, he guarded stolen / high value items, he had separation anxiety and chewed halfway through a door…total nightmare dog, and as first-time dog owners we had sooo much to learn!!
Here are some pics from those first few days; this is me and Kasper that very first evening we had him 🙂
And with my partner on a walk (in those early days he required 4 hours off-lead exercise to be calm in the house!)
He’s a very special dog…and yes he was (and still can be!) an absolute nightmare, but I wouldn’t change him one bit. He has taught me more these past three years than anybody has ever taught me before. I have learnt so much from him. He is incredibly intelligent, he knows I don’t know how many commands, he loves his cuddles, he’s so very sensitive; yes he has his faults but who doesn’t?!
We love you Kasper doodle!! 😀
